Robert J. Riesbeck, our President and Chief Executive Officer, joined us in September 2014 as our Chief Financial Officer. In February 2016, Mr. Riesbeck became our Interim President and Chief Executive Officer while maintaining the Chief Financial Officer role. The Board officially appointed Mr. Riesbeck, President and Chief Executuve Officer on August 1, 2016. Mr. Riesbeck has over 25 years of experience in financial and operations management. From September 2010 through September 2014, Mr. Riesbeck served as Operations Executive/Group Chief Financial Officer at Sun Capital Partners, a private equity firm, where he was responsible for financial and operations oversight of a diverse group of portfolio companies. From February 2007 through September 2010, Mr. Riesbeck was Chief Financial Officer of Marsh Supermarkets, a grocery store chain. Prior to this, Mr. Riesbeck was CFO of American Golf Corporation, an operator of golf courses, and also previously held business-unit COO and CFO roles at Nike, Inc., an athletic footwear company.
Samuel J. Johnson, was appointed Chief Retail Officer in August 2016. Mr. Johnson joined us in August 2010 as Senior Vice President of Store Operations . Mr. Johnson has over 26years of experience in retail sales and store operations. Prior to joining us, Mr. Johnson held various leadership roles withSears, an appliance, hardware, and clothing department store chain, beginning in 1989. From January 2006 to August 2010, Mr. Johnson served as Vice President of Small Stores and Regional Vice President of the Northwest Region. Prior to this, Mr.Johnson held the position of Regional Director of Operations and Merchandising for the Southeast Region from April 2004 through January 2006.
Kevin Kovacs, our Chief Financial Officer, joined us in September 2009. In August 2016, Mr. Kovacs became Chief Financial Officer. Prior to this, Mr. Kovacs held titles of Vice President, Controller and Director of Tax and Treasury. Prior to joining hhgregg, Mr. Kovacs served as the Manager, Tax and Treasury from 2005 to 2007 and as Director, Tax and Treasury from 2007 to 2009 at The Steak n Shake Company. Mr. Kovacs also served several roles at KPMG, LLP from 1998 to 2005, most recently serving as Senior Tax Manager.
Mr. Schuetz was appointed Chief Information Officer in August 2016. Prior to joining us, Mr. Schuetz was Chief Technology Officer for Luxottica’s Americas & Asia-Pacific enterprise including 7,000+ Retail stores locations, 4 datacenters, and 5 regional labs / distribution sites. Mr. Schuetz has 30 years of retail IT experience with companies such as Macys, Hudson’s Bay, Lord & Taylor and May Department Stores as well as working with both retail and consumer products during his tenure at Deloitte Consulting. Mr. Schuetz attended Lock Haven University receiving his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration.
Mr. Trahan was appointed Chief Merchandising Officer in January 2017. Prior to joining us, Mr. Trahan held various leadership roles with Conn's Home Plus, a durable consumer goods retailer and proprietary credit solution, beginning in 2002. From September 2014 to December 2016, Mr. Trahan served as Vice President of Merchandising. Prior to this, Mr. Trahan served as Senior Director and Director of Merchandising from August 2008 to September 2014 and as Senior Buyer of Consumer Electronics from January 2006 to August 2008.
